Most often my work begins with a foundational image sourced from various forms of detritus, such as broadsheets, textbooks, obscure digital content, and discarded receipts. The appropriated image may appear innocuous or even banal, as it has lost its original context and content due to its numerous means of distribution, deterioration, reproduction, remixing, and copying/pasting. Regardless, the selected image now contains an ethereal mystery or intangible quality that I hope the viewer will perceive.

Materials for the works are as varied as the imagery, utilizing drawing, print, and painting on translucent synthetic paper, cast stretched canvases, hand-poured concrete, or found paper. The appropriated image serves as the primary host or armature from which other visual forms are intuitively added, mutated, and propagated—re-animating the original image. The results are works that defy linear interpretation, and instead afford a syntax that is unique to each. Often, meaning and interpretation are elusive and enigmatic—as they should be. The endgame is to make art that is engaging in the present moment and well beyond the initial viewing experience.
